1. Bonita Vista

The Barons will make a push to hold it down at the top of the rankings. We saw the Lady Barons play a grueling off season schedule and held their own amongst some of the top teams and players in the state. Their key losses were Guard Anneth Grijalba and defensive pest Jaylean Arenas. They have quite a few key additions including the 2018 player of the year Sylena Peterson who transferred in last year. The Barons are loaded with talent as they also brought in the strongest freshman class in the city that includes guard Kaylyn Buchanon and foward Madison Cannon, two highly ranked prospects.  They return the core of the team in jr guards Julia Cosolan, Isabel Rector and Keyanna McCoy. With the season around the corner the 2 time league champs are looking to come in at the top of the county.

2. Mater Dei

The Lady crusaders bring back sr. guard Marissa Sanchez who will be the go to guard. They will also bring back Kayanna Spriggs and Niala Mitchell who will bring size, rebounds and added scoring around the basket. With the heart of the team Chloe Webb (UC Irvine) graduating, the heart beat doesn’t stop as her little sister freshman guard Jade Webb is looking to carry the torch and show her talent. The freshman class at Mater Dei is a strong class, as they also bring in Asia Boone a freshmen guard with a good feel for the game. The crusaders can make a push to take the #1 spot by the time they get to the Barons in league.

3. Chula Vista

The Spartans will defend their league title once again from the #3 spot in the south bay.  Their key losses are forward Lajaei West and guard Clarisa Herrera. Chula Vista will bring back their leading scorer and talented Frieda Caballero who is looking to up her 15 ppg average from last season, they will also bring back Alexandra Lozano who finished at the top of the county in rebounding last season. Chula Vista will have a tough league match up with Hilltop and has an interesting matchup at Otay Ranch early in the season. With the heart of the team returning they will be looking to take the South Bay league for the 4th consecutive year.

Mikayla Maglalang headed into her final season. The Sr guard will have an expanded role on an experienced team.

4. Otay Ranch

When Lynette Garon is on your roster you could never count out the lady mustangs. Lynette finished in the top of the south bay in multiple statistical categories last season and will only continue to get better.  Both Lynette and Mikayla Maglalang are entering their senior year with confidence and could make a run in division 2. They will be tested in their early season match up with Chula Vista, which can determine who will stand at #3. They will have to put together a string of huge unlikely upsets to win league this season. Freshman guard Mia Maglalang will help alleviate pressure.

Liz Valencia maybe a key contributor to the Lancers season. She is a freshman guard with a nice shot.

5. Hilltop

The Lancers have been working this off season. The program has turned the corner under coach Brandon Alvarado. Hilltop split their league title with Chula Vista winning a league title for the first time in 4 years. The Lancers took a hit with Jr guard Jaya Little potentially out for the season due to injury. That will leave a heavy workload on Sr guard Sophia Gomez and Jr center Keykey Grayson. The lancers maybe onto something with Freshman forward Lizeth Valencia who was seen shooting the 3 ball well this off-season. It will be interesting to see how the Lancers fair in league against Chula Vista. They are mixing it up with teams in Metro league with games against Olympian and Montgomery on their schedule.
