BIG CITY HOOPS MOTHERS DAY SHOWCASE

The last contest of the day, Lady Barons pulled out the win against Bishop Gorman 51-49 on Freshmen Isabel Rector’s Steal and lay up with three seconds remaining in the contest. This game featured two teams that have similar styles of play and have loads of young talent in their program and look to be solid in the region for the next couple of years. Standouts from this game were Keyanna McCoy who nailed several threes from WNBA range (no exaggeration) and handled the point duties when needed and Georgia Ohiaeri once again was solid, getting to the rim off the dribble and finishing as well as rebounding. on Saturday May 12, 2018, two local San Diego teams vying for regional standing on the west coast, took on Bishop Gorman High School out of Las Vegas, NV. Coach Kevin Nixon and his lady Gaels traveled to San Diego to scrimmage  Cathedral Catholic and Bonita Vista at Bonita Vista High School, Chula Vista Ca. In the first game of the day, Cathedral Catholic bested Bishop Gorman by a score of 41-35 in a hard fought defensive match which featured 6’1 Bishop Gorman Junior Forward Georgia Ohiaeri and Cathedral Catholic’s duo of 6’1 Junior Mazatlan Harris and 5’10 Junior Naomi Gispson, battling in the paint. Bishop Gorman came back from a double digit deficit in the first half, but ran out of gas in the second half, as Cathedral finished with a couple of crucial layups to seal the win. Bishop Gorman’s Ohiaeri and Cathedral’s Gipson were the standouts from that contest. Both Ohiaeri and Gipson should be on many D1 and D2 coaches radar in the next year and can sign both early, virtually stealing talent.
